Oh for the love of God – everlasting and true
Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.
Jeremiah 31:3
If you’ve been in the world for a minute and/or have been paying attention, it’s very likely that you have come across the below statement or two about the greatest and most overrated and misunderstood emotion—‘love’!
- Love is just an emotion, an intense feeling on the inside
- Self love is the best love.
- Love is love
- Rainbows, bubbles, unicorns
- Candlelight dinners and a romantic getaways
And this list can go on and on….
But here’s what I’d like to encourage you to ponder upon, whatever the modern-day world may state about love, the truth is that each of the above ideas of love are temporary and do not have an eternal warranty. They only exist for as long as their ideator does.
No, I’m not trying to be the bearer of bad news. In fact I have great news for you. Yes, for you. the one with a broken heart.
What if I told you that you have a greater love to bank on and this one is described as ‘everlasting’ and ‘never ending’. The ideator of this type of love is love personified Himself and eternal.
If you want to dig a little deeper into this love, stay with me, I promise you it will be worth your time. But before that let us acknowledge why love is important to us human beings.
Love Is a Basic Human Need
Once one’s physiological needs, such as breathing, water, food, etc., and the feeling of security and safety are met, a person needs to feel love and belonging in order to grow.
Human beings tend to use love to drive us in what we do in life. The most common things that love drives us to do is to find a partner and sometimes get married and have children who we, in turn, share our love with. Love gives us the reassurance that we will be cared for and helped in times of need and given support to achieve goals.
What lack of love does to people?
Study has it that Infants and children who grow up without love and affection might have an insecure attachment style as adults. A lack of love can be damaging and cause loneliness and social isolation in adults have been shown to coincide with chronic health conditions. There are risks of depression and eventually suicide.
Reality Check
Let’s be honest. We’ve all had our heartbreak moments. According to research, the most prevalent reasons of heartbreak are breakups, infidelity (i.e., cheating, adultery, rejection, loss of loved ones through death, loss of jobs/sources of income, absence of friendships, past mistakes catching up to you, and this extensive list can go on and on.
If you’ve been in any of the above, few of the above or all of the above and it has wrecked havoc in your life leaving you with a sense of hopelessness—you are not alone.
Truth is we live in a temporary fallen world. And everything that this world has to offer like love, property, jobs, feelings, relationships, friendships and so on is just as temporary with limited warranty. Even marriages are only till “death do us part”.
PS I love you
But here’s your big break. And this is straight from the word of the Lord , it says…
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.
Jeremiah 31:3
‘Everlasting love’ by definition includes an unending range of love, from eternity past into eternity future. Eternity. That means when God says he loves you with an everlasting love, you and I through Jesus Christ have access to a love that has no beginning or end; it just is.
We can keep asking for more of His love and He can keep giving. He doesn’t just love us for the few decades we have on this side of eternity. He loves for the life that is to come through Jesus for eternity in heaven as well–so unlike human love right?
Do you want access to that love? Start by inviting Jesus into your heart today. Say this prayer with me
Lord Jesus. I am a sinner, you are my Saviour. I have come to believe that you are the son of God, that you died for me and you rose again, so that when this body that I live in dies, my Spirit can be with you in heaven for eternal life. Lord, I invite your Holy Spirit to come live in my heart, teach me your ways Lord, help me obey your voice, and continue to fill my heart with your everlasting love. In Jesus name.. amen.
Now that you’ve invited Jesus into your heart, know for sure that there is absolutely nothing that can separate you from the love of Jesus.
